Gayle Akers Zamudio, 68, of Goshen, died Wednesday afternoon, June 18, 2014, at home. She had been ill for many years. She was born September 13, 1945 in Winifrede, West Virginia, to Cecil Akers, Sr. and Virginia (Cantebury) Higginbotham. On May 11, 2001 she married Gustavo Zamudio in Goshen. He survives along with four daughters, Mary Faith (Maurice) Coles, Carol Lynn (Benito) Aguilar, both of Goshen, Sabrina (Richard) Hodge, of West Virginia, and Tamara (Martin) McRobie, of Florida; nine grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris (Elbert) Kemper, of Elkhart; and two brothers, Jerry Akers, of Elkhart, and Paul (Vicki) Akers, of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Betty Mucubbins, and two brothers, Cecil Akers, Jr. and Ronald Akers. Prior to retirement Gayle had worked at Triangle Rubber, Goshen. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where an 11:30 a.m. funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.
