Gary W. Askew

January 23, 1954 — April 2, 2019

Gary W. Askew, 65, of Elkhart, ended his journey unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Elkhart General Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born January 23, 1954 in Florence, Alabama to Homer and Lola (Young) Askew, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by son, Nick Adam Askew, Indianapolis; brother, Eddie Leon (Toni) Askew, Goshen; sister, Stella A. Askew, Elkhart; former wife, Lori Hoisington, Holt, Michigan; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his nieces and nephews who loved and adored their Uncle BooBoo.

Gary has worked for Kroger in Goshen for ten years as a utility clerk. He loved his family and was great with people because he had a “heart of gold” and was giving to others.  A 1972 graduate of Concord High School, he attended Goshen College and Michigan State.  While living in Lansing, he worked for Safety Clean.  Gary enjoyed nature and photography, was a great chef and avid reader, and had chickens he was raising.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 1 p.m. funeral service will take place.  Pastor Mike Swineheart, Grace Point Apostolic Church, Osceola will officiate.

Burial will be at Violett Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart County Parks Department.

Gary was a proud organ donor and gave his eyes so that others can read.
