Galen LaVern Yoder, Greencroft Goshen, passed through death into life on April 10, 2019, at the age of 93. He was born August 4, 1925, to Edwin J. and Mollie (Stoltzfus) Yoder in Topeka. He married Esther Mishler on April 17, 1948.
He is survived by five of their six children: Retha (Franklin) Baer, of Harrisonburg, Virginia; Rosalie Yoder of Hampton, Virginia; Ronald (Jane) Yoder of Wolcottville; Roberta (Terry) Bontrager of Central Asia; and Rodney (Verna) Yoder of West LaFayette; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Olive Grace (Ed) Millerof Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, their son, Russell, at age 19, as well as by his sisters, Genevieve Friesen and Gladys Johns, and his brother, Gerald Yoder.
Galen was a dairy farmer who often claimed to be outstanding in his field. He served on the board of Milk, Inc. flying his own plane to meetings out of state. He enjoyed performing with the Menno Singers and was actively involved in music and leadership positions in several churches, including Maple Grove Mennonite, Topeka; Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, Syracuse; Topeka Mennonite Church; and Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen. After retiring from the farm, he enjoyed woodworking, became a member and leader with Gideons International, and was active in the Topeka Area Historical Society. His humor and story-telling will long be remembered by his family and friends.
Visitation will be at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, Wednesday April 24, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Topeka at 9 a.m. Thursday April 25, 2019 . A memorial service will take place Thursday April 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Waterford Mennonite Church.
Memorial donations may be given to Gideons International or Bethany Christian Schools. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
