Galen “Brad” Strycker, 92, of Goshen passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born January 27, 1932 in Goshen to Peter and Ina C. (Hoover) Strycker.
On July 19, 1953 he married A. Joretta Troyer at Bethany Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, whom he met while serving with Brethren Volunteer Service.
She survives along with five children, Bradley (Dee) Strycker of Goshen, Donna (Charlie) Agnew of West Lafayette, Lori (Ron) Trosper of Goshen, Benita (Jim) Shaw of Nappanee, and Jamie (Kim) Strycker of Wakarusa; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, E. Max Strycker of Goshen.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Strycker; a grandson, Steve Strycker; brothers, Marion and Robert Strycker; and sisters, Audrey Stutzman, Bonnie Hoskins, and Joan Hunsberger.
A 1950 graduate of Goshen High School, Mr. Strycker worked for Chase Bag Company, Goshen for 15 years, and retired in 1992 after 19 years with Reese Products, Elkhart.
Church was very important to Brad. He was a long-time member at the Goshen City Church of the Brethren, where he was baptized November 4, 1945. He served the northern Indiana churches as a Stephen’s ministry trainer from 1997-2000, served as a long-time deacon at Goshen City COB, and volunteered for Interfaith Hospitality Network.
He enjoyed gardening, camping and travelling, especially travelling for Heifer Project International.
Always singing, Brad sang in the church choir, the 4 Winds barbershop chorus, and the Evergreen Singers at Greencroft. He and Joretta enjoyed spending winters in the Gulf Shores area for many years.
Visitation will be Friday, June 28, 2024 beginning at 4 p.m. prior to the 6 p.m. memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Brad’s grandson, Bart Shaw will officiate.
Burial of his cremated remains will be at West Goshen Cemetery at a later date.
