It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Frederick Lee Feick, 75, who passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Fred was born in Garrett, on March 16, 1939 but lived most of his life in Goshen. He was the son of Dale and Lucille Feick. He married Dorothy Crow in 1961 who preceded him in death in 2011. He graduated from Garrett High School and the University of Purdue with a master's degree in engineering. For six years, Fred taught physics, electronics and math at Concord High School. He was employed by Lasalle Bristol where he retired as vice president. Fred was a member of Mensa International, a high IQ society for people whose intelligence scores at the 98th percentile or higher. The society seeks to foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Goshen, served on the Elkhart County Planning Commission for more than 20 years, was a member of the Goshen Elks, Moose and Maplecrest Country Club. He was a proud supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Goshen. Fred was a founding member of the Woodworkers Guild in Goshen where he spent many hours honing and sharing his woodworking skills with others. He crafted many beautiful, treasured pieces of furniture for family and friends. Fred loved spending time with family and friends at the Feick's Point lake house in Angola. Memories of times shared there will be cherished by all. One highlight of Fred's week was meeting with a special group of friends for Friday night dinner. He is survived by three sons, Scot (Heidi) of Brownsburg, Steven (Kristina) of Bristol and James (Diann) of Elkhart; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; his brother, Dale (Darien) Feick; and nieces and nephews. His sister, Marlene Gecowets, preceded him in death. Friends and family will gather to remember Fred at Yoder Culp Funeral Home in Goshen with a visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the First United Methodist Church in Goshen on Thursday Nov. 13 for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Memorial funds may be donated to Elkhart Center for Hospice. The family sends a special thanks to all the friends and caretakers who offered so much support to Fred. Fred will be remembered as intelligent, caring, giving, humble, generous, loyal, forgiving and funny and perhaps a bit outspoken at times. A fitting legacy for this special man.
