Fred D. Janney

December 24, 1925 — February 16, 2007

Fred D. Janney, 81, of Elkhart, died at his home Friday afternoon, February 16, 2007.   He was born in Muncie, Indiana, on December 24, 1925, to Floyd and Helen (Thomas) Janney.  He married Rosalea Carver on October 30, 1949, in Gaston, Indiana.  She survives.   Mr. Janney worked as the Postmaster for the Gaston, Indiana, post office for about 20 years.  Prior to that, he had worked for Warner-Gear in Muncie.  After retirement he worked for the Wes-Del School Corporation in maintenance.  He moved to Elkhart five years ago.   A 1944 graduate of Gaston High School, he served in the Army Air Corp from 1944-1945, and was stationed in Lubbock, Texas.  He was a member of the Gaston American Legion Post # 387 and the Masonic Lodge, Matthews Lodge #650, F. & A.M.   He is survived by his wife, Rosalea; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Davis of Elkhart; a son, Duane L. Janney of Elkhart; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Enid Kemp of Gaston, Indiana; and a brother, Gerald (Helen) Janney of Defiance, Ohio.   Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 19, at the funeral home.   A 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2007, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Tim Garner, district minister of the Northern Indiana District of The Brethren Church will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart AIDS Assist/AIDS Ministry.
