Fred V. Hartsough

Fred V. Hartsough, 84, of Shipshewana, died early Friday morning, April 7, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital where he had been a patient since February 24.  He had been in failing health for several years.   He was born January 19, 1922, in Millersburg to Lloyd Melvin and Mamie Ruth (Lohrei) Hartsough.  On May 1, 1948, in Nappanee, he married Geraldyne “Jeri” Mae Morse.  She survives.   Mr. Hartsough was well known for raising Black Angus cattle.  For over 25 years he owned and operated Hartsough Insurance Agency, founded by his father.  He had also worked as a real estate agent for many years.   He graduated from Millersburg High School and a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren.  He was quite an accomplished cook; he enjoyed preparing special meals for his family,especially pies,cakes and cookies.  He was also an avid ourtdoorsman; enjoying small game hunting and mushroom hunting in Michigan.  He had served as VanBuren township trustee for two terms.  He enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler about the farm, country and gospel music and watching IU Basketball and NASCAR.   He is survived by his wife, Jeri; two daughters, Cindy (Warren) Vance of Goshen, and Susan Hochstetler of Shipshewana; two sons, Robert (Barbara) Hartsough of Wolcotville and James (Denise) Hartsough of Middlebury; eight grandchildren; five greatgranchildren; and a sister, Rachel Phillips of Goshen.   He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Livengood and two brothers, Ernest and Richard Hartsough.   Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 9, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   A 5:00 p.m. service will be held on Sunday,April 9, 2006, at the funeral home.  Rev. Yvonne Riege of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren will officiate.   Burial will be in Gracelawn Cemetery, Middlebury at a later date.   Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
