Fred Greenawalt

Fred Greenawalt, 71, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Goshen Hospital.

He was born February 24, 1950 in Goshen to Howard and Esther (Kauffman) Greenawalt. They preceded him in death.

On December 29, 1972 he married Delores Gangwer in Goshen.

She survives along with two children, Adam (Stacy) Greenawalt of Elkhart and Hannah (Travis Niles) Hossler of Goshen; five grandchildren, Lisa and Michael Wood, Donald Hossler, Emily Woolwine and Brooklyn Chupp; a much-anticipated great-grandson, Jaxon, due this October; and a sister, Jane (Joe) Farrell of Goshen.

Fred was an active member of East Goshen Mennonite Church.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Goshen College in 1972 and worked for Schult Homes, Middlebury, as vice president of finance for 26 years. His interest in people and gifts of persuasion led him back to school where he received his law degree from Thomas Cooley School of Law.

Fred enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and popcorn any day of the week. He was a long-time volunteer at Greencroft. Fred spent many hours on the phone connecting with those that were isolated during the pandemic.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, August 22, at 2 p.m. at East Goshen Mennonite Church, 2019 E. Lincoln Ave., Goshen. Pastors Naomi Yoder and Merle Hostetler will officiate.

According to Fred’s wishes, cremation will take place following services.
