Fred Abney

Goshen- Fred Alan Abney, 71, died on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at his home under the care of Goshen Hospice.

He was born on April 21, 1954, in Middletown, Ohio, to Ruby Abney and Lora Lee (Harrington) Slapak.

Fred married his wife of 53 years, Cindy Berkman, on June 16, 1972, in Goshen.

She survives, along with their two sons, Floyd and Jamie (Jennifer) Abney; grandsons Conner Centers, Anakin Abney, and Layne Healy; granddaughters Jayla Centers, Arya Abney, and Emmileigh Borgaard; and sisters Yutonia Ferguson and Dwanna Marchand. Fred was preceded in death by his mother Lora Lee Slapak, father Ruby Abney, granddaughter Autumn Healy, and sister Valerie Abney.

Fred was a general manager for Filter Fabrics for many years. He truly loved music from all genres and became an extremely talented guitarist and teacher. He belonged to several local bands over the years, with the most notable being Crosstown Country and Country Heart. He had a passion for restoring vintage items such as Harley-Davidson motorcycles, clocks, cars, and even jukeboxes. His talent for accessing a problem and then figuring out a solution was amazing. He will be missed by family and friends. He was a good man that made a great impression on everyone.

Fred’s wishes were to be cremated under the care of Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
