Franklin Morris Kauffman, 89, of Goshen, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, October 1, 2015, at Waterford Crossing. He had been in failing health. He was born May 26, 1926 in Kenmare, North Dakota to William and Elma (Harris) Kauffman, the youngest of nine children. He and his family moved to LaGrange County in 1938. On June 21, 1947 he married Evelyn Hostetler. She died July 4, 2012. Survivors include two daughters, Pat (Danny) Yoder and Maryann (Ron) Shultz, both of Goshen; four grandsons, Rob (Sara) Yoder, Sam (Nicole) Shultz, Matt (Becky) Shultz, and Derek Shultz; and nine great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ella and Ava Yoder and Abby, Hannah, Mallory, Hailey, Joslyn and Graham Shultz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and eight siblings, Marvin, LeRoy, Floyd, and Melvin Dean Kauffman, Elsie Zook, Hazel Hostetler, Iva Merrifield and Lois Franz. Frank served in the US Army from 1944 to 46 in Germany. Frank was manager of the Pine Manor feed mill; had a logging business; delivered boats for Steury Boat Company; started Midwest Boat Repair and established Midwest Marine and Camper Center. He was a dispatcher and delivered motor homes for Gulf Stream when he retired. Frank and Evelyn were active in the Benton Mennonite Church. He was currently a member of Waterford Mennonite Church. Frank was involved in the establishment of Elmwood Mennonite Church, Kendallville and served as regional director of Mennonite Disaster Service. He volunteered several years doing maintenance at Mennonite Disabilities, Goshen. Friends may call Sunday, October 4, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted Monday, October 5, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Waterford Mennonite Church. Pastor Neil Amstutz will officiate. A private family burial will be at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Disabilities or Mennonite Disaster Service.
