Floyd LaVerne Rheinheimer, M.D., 86, of Goshen and formerly of Milford, died early Monday morning, July 7, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital. He had been in declining health for several years and admitted to the hospital on Sunday. He was born in Shipshewana on October 24, 1921, to Edward and Laura (Reinhardt) Rheinheimer. He married Irene Miller on November 22, 1942, at Shore Mennonite Church in Shipshewana. A family physician, he practiced medicine for 35 years in Milford, from 1954-1989. Dr. Rheinheimer graduated from Shipshewana High School in 1940, Goshen College in 1949 and I.U. Medical School in 1953. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice; the Christian Medical and Dental Society; and a former member of the Milford Kiwanis Club. He did CPS (Civilian Public Service) from 1943 to 1945 in Dennison, Iowa and Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was a ham radio operator and a private pilot. He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Faye Gonzalez of Austin, Texas, and Anita (Paul) Yoder of Goshen; three sons, Lowell (Jun) Rheinheimer of LaFarge, Wisconsin, Roger (Ginny) Rheinheimer of Port Angeles, Washington, and Douglas (Val) Rheinheimer of Alexandria, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lila (Lester) Mishler of LaGrange, Indiana, and Florence (David) Harnish of Ephrata, Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Howard (Miriam) Rheiheimer of Lititz, Pennsylvania and Ralph (Carol) Rheinheimer of Orville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Miller and Dora Hostetler; and a brother, Rollin Rheinheimer. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 9 in the Koinania Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. An 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2008, memorial service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church. Rev. Harlan Steffen of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel and Pastors Lee and Betty Hochstetler of College Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery, Milford, prior to the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Disaster Service.
