Floyd L. Hershberger

Floyd L Hershberger, 88, of Tucson, Arizona passed away at 4:50 p.m. on October, 30, 2021.

He was born June 30, 1933, in Ligonier, Indiana, to Levi and Susie (Herschberger) Hershberger.

He married Barbara Miller, daughter of Polly Helmuth and Jacob E. Miller, in June 1956.

Floyd is survived by his children: James Hershberger, Patricia Hershberger, and Kristen (Luke) Quinnan of Tucson, Arizona and Robert Hershberger of Osceola, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, daughter Paula Sue Hershberger, six brothers, Jency Hershberger, Clarence Hershberger, Eli

Hershberger, Roy Hershberger, Lee Hershberger, Roman Hershberger, and sister Martha Winslow.

Floyd taught Mathematics and Computer Science at various schools in Pennsylvania, and Indiana, retiring from Penn High School. He was very active in the Mennonite churches he attended throughout his life, including Belmont Mennonite Church, Kern Road Mennonite Church, Carlsbad Mennonite Church, and Shalom Mennonite Church.

Floyd had a spirit of volunteerism, leading several Mennonite Board of Missions Voluntary Service (VS) houses during the summer months, volunteering as a Troop leader under the Boy Scouts of America organization, and also volunteering, with his wife, for two years in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Mennonita School. Floyd also worked with the SOOP Program, and locally in Tucson at the Community Food Bank, Adaptation Station, and Pima Council on Aging.

Floyd loved travel and enjoyed outdoor activities. He traveled throughout the United States with his family during the summer months, and took trips to Europe and Africa with his extended family. He was an avid bicyclist, hiker, golfer, and walker all his life. He also enjoyed camping during those summer trips with the family. At home, Floyd always had home improvement projects in progress. He loved to learn new techniques for home improvements, and building furniture.

A memorial service will be held on November 6, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Shalom Mennonite Church, in Tucson, Arizona, where he was a member. Masks are required for attending the memorial service.

Burial at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen, Indiana, will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Floyd’s name to Shalom Mennonite Church (6044 E 30th Street, Tucson, Ariona, 85711), the American Cancer Society, or TMC Hospice (Hospice Fund/Peppi’s House).
