Florence Valentine Shipley

Florence V. Shipley, 88, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, April 21, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital where she had been a patient the last two days. She was born in Silver Lake, Indiana, on February 14, 1921, to Ralph and Oznola (Freed) Montel.  She married Jack W. Shipley in Newark, New Jersey on December 12, 1942.  He preceded her in death on October 9, 2001. A graduate of Silver Lake High School, Mrs. Shipley moved to Elkhart County in 1966 from Silver Lake.  She was a cook at Silver Lake High School and a beautician.  She successfully sold Sarah Coventry jewelry.  She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed entertaining family. A member of Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, Mrs. Shipley is survived by a daughter, Lisa (Kent) Woodiwiss of Goshen; two sons, Joe (Bev) Shipley and Jay Shipley, both of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Schumacher of Noblesville; and two brothers, Ralph (Margaret) Montel of Warsaw and Merl (Lessie) Montel of Pierceton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; five sisters, Marie Bouse, Mildred Eads, Elva Miller, Miriam Eads and Mable Enyeart; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Shipley. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 24, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with licensed minister, Tim Yoder officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Silver Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren.
