Florence L. Homes, 89, of Goshen, died Monday evening, July 31, 2006, at her home. She was born April 1, 1917 in Olive Township in Elkhart County, Indiana, to Isaiah and Lizzie (Weaver) Shaum. She married Ralph B. Homes on November 27, 1943, in Goshen. He died June 13, 2003. Mrs. Homes, a lifelong resident of the area, was a seamstress and a cake decorator and had worked at Snuggle Rugs, Smollers, Goshen General Hospital, and retired from Goshen Cushion. She was a member of the Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen. She is survived by a son, Glenn J. (Sue) Homes and a daughter, Cheryl J. Homes, both of Goshen; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma (Chris) Kulp of Wakarusa; and a brother, Paul (Ruth) Shaum of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; six sisters, Alma Witmer, Lulu Witmer, Mary Shaum, Nettie Martin, Barbara VanPelt and Carrie Zimmerman; and five brothers, Henry, Joseph, Harvey, Vernon and Warren Shaum. Friends will be received at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, August 3, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. A 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2006, service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Her nephews, Rev. Kenneth Martin and Rev. Raymond Shaum will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Waterford Mennonite Church or MDC-Goldenrod.
