F. Alice Newcomer, 78, of Goshen, died early Sunday afternoon, September 2, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare where she had been since August 17. She was born May 31, 1934 in Manson, Iowa, to Alvin and Ruth (Lehman) Zehr. She married Marvin L. Newcomer November 24, 1960 in Wakarusa. She is survived by a daughter, Jill (Chris) Erb of New Paris; a son, Kelly (Carla) Newcomer of Zionsville; six grandchildren, Spencer, Sara and Austin Erb all of New Paris, and; Hannah (Logan) Campbell, Allison and Emily Newcomer, all of Zionsville; and two sisters, Florence (Roman) Hersberger and Nelda (Irvin) Nussbaum, both of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She was an active member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, serving in many capacities including, elder, Stephen Minister, Minister of Christian Education, longtime children's Sunday school teacher, song leader and prayer shawl knitter. She also volunteered at Mennonite Central Committee and IU Health Goshen Hospital. A graduate of Hesston Academy, Hesston College, Goshen College and Western Michigan University, she taught school in the Jimtown school district and worked at the Wakarusa Public Library. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 10 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012, funeral service at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. Pastors Wes Bontreger, Katie Cunningham and Harold Yoder will officiate. Burial will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Yellow Creek Mennonite Church Building Fund or MCC.
