Evelyn B. Kreider, 102, of Goshen, died Sunday April 30, 2017 at Greencroft Goshen Healthcare.
Evelyn was born November 17, 1914 in West Hill, Pennsylvania to Mary Rebecca (Seitz) Burkholder and Henry Longenecker Burkholder.
On June 8, 1939 she married Carl Kreider in London, England. He died February 7, 2002.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Rebecca (Weldon) Pries of Cambridge, Massachusetts; two sons, Alan (Eleanor Graber Nase) Kreider and Thomas Kreider both of Goshen; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Kreider (Gretchen Fisher) in 2013; two sisters, Mildred Hackman and Verna Troyer; and two brothers, J. Lawrence and Harold Burkholder.
Evelyn was a 1936 graduate of Goshen College where she majored in home economics. Her life complemented her husband’s work and commitment to Christian higher education as they lived and served locally at Goshen College and internationally at International Christian University in Tokyo and Halie Selassie I University in Addis Ababa. She served on the Peace Section of Mennonite Central Committee, on the board of Maple City Health Care Center, and as elder at College Mennonite Church where she was a long time member. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, homemaker, neighbor, friend, and peace activist.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 memorial service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church. Pastors Phil Waite and Pamela Yoder will officiate.
A private family graveside service will be held at Violett Cemetery where her cremated remains will be buried.
Memorial gifts may be directed to College Mennonite Church Jubilee Fund, Goshen College, Interfaith Hospitality Network or Maple City Health Care Center.
