Evelyn Chiddister

Evelyn Chiddister, 89, died on Tuesday August 11, 2009, in Bloomington, Indiana, following a brief illness.  She was born in Silver Lake, Indiana, on May 20, 1920, to James  and Louise ( Fruit) Jontz, She married Daniel Chiddister  in Silver Lake on April 4, 1942.  Before her marriage, Mrs. Chiddister taught English and history for a year in South Bend.  She served as the volunteer director of the Camp Fire Girls and helped her husband with his business.  She was very active in volunteer activities in Goshen, including Psi Iota Xi and the Library Club.  She was an avid golfer at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club and Maplecrest Country Club, and an accomplished bridge player. She is survived by a daughter, Diane Chiddister of Yellow Springs, Ohio; a son, Daniel (Jacque) Chiddister of Bloomington, Indiana; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen (Tom) Lundstrom of Leawood, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; and a brother, Lee Jontz. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 14 and from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. A 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Paul Koepke will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth United Church of Christ or The Window.
