Esther Weaver, 89, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Hospice of the Valley, Tempe Arizona. She was born March 27, 1921 in Middlebury, to Floyd and Mary Ferne (Leek) Hartzler. She married Harold Oyer in December 1942. He preceded her in death in 1988. In November 1999, she married Arthur Weaver. He died in August 2009. A 1939 graduate of Goshen High School, Mrs. Weaver graduated from Goshen College in December 1942 with a BS degree in Elementary Education. She subsequently received a Masters degree and a Reading Specialist License from Indiana University. She taught school for 30 years including one or more years in Peoria Illinois, Goshen Indiana, Bloomington, Indiana, Elkhart, Indiana and Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Surviving are three children, Dr. Philip (AnneMarie) Oyer of Woodside, California, Michael (Martha) Oyer, and Cynthia (David) Reynolds, both of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Lisa and Katelyn; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sawyer and Kabraun. Also surviving are step-children, Timothy (Cathy) Weaver of Wilmette Illinois, Thomas (Jennie) Weaver of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Brent (Suzanne) Weaver of Sammamish, Washington, and seven grandchildren She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Hartzler and William Hartzler. Mrs. Weaver was a lifelong member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Goshen, and an associate member of the Valley Presbyterian Church, Scottsdale, since moving to Arizona in 1982. Friends may call 4-7 p.m., Thursday, April 22, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2010, funeral service will be held at Eighth Street Mennonite Church Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
