Esther I. Cripe, 99, of St. Road 15 south, Goshen, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, July 23, 2014, at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa. She was born Oct. 19, 1914 in Rockford, Illinois to Edgar and Hattie (Conklin) Hunt. On October 25, 1941 she married Noble "Toby" Cripe. He died January 29, 1976. She is survived by three daughters, Jane (Joe) Speicher, Goshen, Julie (Kirby) Myers, New Paris and June (Roger) Shreiner, Elkhart; five granddaughters and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sisters, Myrtle Downing and Marcella Hammond; and a granddaughter. Mrs. Cripe moved to the area in 1948, coming from White Pigeon, Mich. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, having served in many areas, including singing in the choir, office volunteer and was named a Presbyterian woman of the year. A private graveside service will be held in Violett Cemetery. Grandson-in-law, Pastor Drew Ryall of New Life Missionary Church, Topeka, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa or to the Alzheimer's Association.
