Ervin J. Lung, 85, of Elkhart, died Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2015 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehab. He was born March 6, 1930 in LaGrange County to Hurlis Lung and Mary (Witham) Weldy. On May 13, 1966 he married June G. (Sheets) Jones. She died January 19, 1991. Ervin spent 23 years with his childhood sweetheart, Doris Knepper. Survivors include his special friend, Doris Knepper of Elkhart; a son, John Lung of Elkhart; a step-son, James (Cindy) Shallenbarger, Goshen; two step-daughters, Canda Quinn and Dorothy (Lee) Miller, both of Goshen; and 10 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers, Charles and Larry Lung and a step-sister, Esther Painter. A veteran and member of the Bristol American Legion, Mr. Lung served in the Navy during the Korean War. After the war he joined the Air Force and worked at Lockheed Air Force Base on the Blue Angels aircrafts. He was a boxer during his military days. He retired May 22, 1992 from McDonald-Douglas in Long Beach, California. Friends may call Monday, August 10, 2015, one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
