Emma D. Chupp, 76, of Goshen, passed away early Friday morning, July 13, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born December 30, 1935 in Shipshewana to Andrew and Anna (Yoder) Chupp. She is survived by three sisters, Dema (John) Mishler of Greenwood, Delaware, Ann Yoder of Moses Lake, Washington, and Katie (Paul) Swarzentruber of Kalona, Iowa; and a brother, Andrew (Dema) Chupp of Dayton, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Lizzie and Drucilla Chupp, Millie Eicher and Mattie Schrock; and three brothers, Ben, Ike, Levi Chupp. A member of Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Emma's hobbies were reading her Bible, singing, visiting with people, playing her autoharp at church programs and helping her sister, Drucilla, teach Sunday School and Bible School for little children. It was a marvel how she could quiet the unruly and encourage the sad ones. Her favorite place to work was in the kitchen with whoever was there, but especially her mother. With God's majestic power, in 1974, Emma and her sister, Drucilla, cofounded a program for the handicapped people in the area named Project Promise. In 1976, with the generous help of others, the work became a local mission under the umbrella of MDC Goldenrod. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, funeral service at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. Pastor Terry Diener will officiate. Burial will follow in Naylor Cemetery, Shipshewana. Memorial contributions may be made to MDC Goldenrod.
