Emma J. Bailey, 74, of Middlebury, died Saturday afternoon, December 21, 2013, at Hospice House, Elkhart, from complications after a long battle with cancer. She was born December 29, 1938 in Wakarusa to Ivan and Gertrude (Hartley) Hahn. On October 6, 1957 she married Paul Bailey. He died March 8, 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Cathleen Berkey of Elkhart; five sons, Paul (Stacey) Bailey, Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Phillip (Becci) Bailey of Irving, Texas, Patrick (Carla) Bailey, Robert (Kathy) and Jonathon (Diane) Bailey, all of Goshen; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hahn of Wakarusa and Ruth Ann Hahn of Elkhart; and two brothers, Daniel (Gail) and Samuel Hahn, both of Nappanee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Pamela Bailey, a son, Joseph Bailey, and two brothers, Robert and Donald Hahn. A devoted grandmother, she attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bailey worked at Johnson Controls for more than 30 years. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2013, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A 10 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Rinearson will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
