He was born on March 6, 1929 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Emery and Lucinda (Lehman) Holsopple.
On June 5, 1948 he married Mary Miller in Davidsville, Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2018.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Shirley) Holsopple, Goshen and Jerry (Mary) Holsopple of Harrisonburg, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Kathy (James) Holsopple, New Paris; six grandchildren, Lisa, Darin, Kent, Eric, Dirk and Kate; and seven great-grandchildren, Carter, Colette, Adelyn, Joya, Emery, Chloe and Zeke.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Holsopple; sister, Erma Short, and brothers, Elvin, Paul, and Samuel Holsopple.
Emery loved to build, tinker and fix. He was a plumber, welder and mechanic who lived with the idea that he could fix anything. His grandchildren have cedar chests and end tables in their homes to remind them of his craftsmanship. The barns, dollhouses and mini furniture he built were marvelous tools of creative play as they grew up. If you had an idea for a project he would figure out a way to build it. If it took hard work, that was welcomed. Everyone who met Emery experienced his ability to chat with anyone and his sense of humor. He did not understand the idea of a stranger. He was generous with his skills and money helping others fix, build and follow their dreams. All of his work and generous spirit came from a deep faith commitment. He was always active in church, serving in various leadership roles and teaching Sunday School. He modeled how to be a gentle caring man with his unwavering love for his wife, children and grandchildren.
