Emanuel C. Hertzler, 92, of Granger, died Wednesday morning, January 28, 2009, at the home of his daughter. He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1917, to Aldus and Ellen (Kratz) Hertzler.  He married Myrtle Schnell on June 14, 1942 in Orville, Ohio.  She died May 9, 1991. A resident of the area since 1991, Mr. Hertzler was a professor at Kent State University and University of Michigan.  He was a member of Kern Road Mennonite Church and a former member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen. He is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Barton) Cassel Hertzler Martin of Madison, Wisconsin, Linda Louise Hertzler Pierard of Melbourne, Australia, and Suzanne (Daniel Scarsella) Scarsella Hertzler of Granger; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi (John) Bender of Delores, Colorada and Ruth (Galen) Swope of Sarasota, Florida; two brothers, Aldus (Ruth) Hertzler of Souderton, Pennsylvania, and Elam (Martha Blank) Hertzler of Sarasota, Florida; and a sister-in-law, Caroly (Harold Bauman) Hertzler of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Sally Hertzler; and a brother, Paul Hertzler. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the Kern Road Mennonite Church, South Bend, where an 11:00 a.m., funeral service will be conducted.  Pastors Dave Sutter, Janice Sutter, Andre Gingerich Stoner and Rachel Miller-Jacobs will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to KRMC (Kern Road Mennonite Church) Capital Improvement or KRMC Endowment Fund.
