Elwood E. Culp

Elwood E. Culp, 86, passed away early Saturday morning, July 25, 2009, at his home. He was born to Noble and Minnie (Sheets) Culp Kauffman on March 7, 1923, in Goshen, Indiana.  He married Martha Card on June 9, 1946, in Niles, Michigan.  She died on March 24, 2002.  He then married Melba Bechtel on April 24, 2004.  She survives. Elwood was a lifetime Goshen resident and graduated from Goshen High School in 1942.  He attended Butler University for one year. Elwood retired from the former Salem Bank in 1987 where he worked in customer service.  He was a member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church and Maplecrest Country Club.  He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Jan L. (Joseph) Durand of Granger, Indiana; one son, Jerry E. Culp of Montezuma, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren;  two sisters, Jean (Kauffman) Mills of Monterey, Tennessee, and Bernice Bainter of Fort Myers, Florida; two step-daughters, Nancy (Stephen) Miller of Goshen and Cindy (Gary) Burge of Goshen; and one step-son, Jack (Nadine) Bechtel of Goshen.  He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Mervin Kauffman; his first wife; and two brothers, Frank Kauffman and Bill Culp. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 27, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. An 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, memorial service will be held at Eighth Street Mennonite Church with the Reverend Kevin Farmwald officiating. Burial will be private at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery of Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made out to Eighth Street Mennonite Church or Care at Home Hospice or Koinonia Farm.
