Elson "Bud" Abbott

August 18, 1930 — February 27, 2013

Elson "Bud" Abbott 82, of Goshen, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013 at Eastlake Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart. He was born August 18, 1930 in Reading, Michigan, to Benjamin F. and Gladys (Childs) Abbott. On October 18, 1954 he married Emojean Felker in Arlington, Virginia. "Bud" is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carin Jones, and a son, Brett Abbott, both of Goshen; three sisters, Irene Baker, of Montpelier, Ohio, Arlene Markle, of Mesa, Arizona, Valeda Myers, of St. Angelo, Texas.; and a brother, Kenneth (Alice) Abbott, of Galesburg, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Baker; and a brother, Floyd Abbott. A local resident since 1981, he worked in the printing industry as a lithographer, most recently with Barger Packaging, Elkhart. "Bud" raised quarter-horses, and enjoyed any activity outdoors. You could count on him to be "tinkering" on all different kinds of projects. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1951-53. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a 12:30 p.m. Saturday funeral service will be held. Rev. Terry Tyler of Grace Point Church, Nappanee, will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association
