Elmina E. Christner, 92, of Goshen died Sunday afternoon at The Maples at Waterford Crossing. She was born November 24, 1922 in Ontario, Canada to Aaron and Delila (Ruby) Bender. On May 15, 1948 she married Louis Christner in East Zorah Township, Ontario. He died in October 1989. Surviving are three sons, John (Dorothy) Christner, of Goshen, James Christner, of Sebewaing, Michigan, and Richard Christner, of Goshen; two grandchildren, Keri and Scott; three sisters, Edith Bender, of New Hamburg, Ontario, Helene Eicher, of Milverton, Ontario, and Hilda (Harvey) Roth, of Stratford, Ontario; and two brothers, Delmer Bender, of New Hamburg, Ontario and Merlon Bender, of Ailsa Craig, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Edna Boshart, and two brothers, Willis and Elmon Bender. Mrs. Christner lived in Pigeon, Mich., most of her life, where she worked as a dietitian at Scheurer Hospital. After moving to the Goshen area in the early 1990's, she attended Pleasant View Mennonite Church. She was an active volunteer at The Depot and Greencroft. An excellent cook and hostess, Elmina was also a quiltmaker and donated many quilts to Mennonite Relief Sales and Youth for Christ events. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Pigeon River Mennonite Church, 7120 Geiger Rd., Pigeon, Michigan. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Pigeon River Mennonite Church. Rev. Wayne Keim will officiate. Burial will follow at Pigeon River Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pleasant View Mennonite Church or Pigeon River Mennonite Church.
