Elmer E. Stealy

Elmer Edwin Stealy, 82, of Goshen, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born February 5, 1944, in Goshen to Daniel and Romaine (Mast) Stealy.

Elmer graduated from Goshen High School in 1962 and married Diane Sue Miller on April 25, 1964, at West Goshen Brethren Church. Together they shared one month shy of 62 years of marriage.

Elmer was a self-made businessman and the founder of Stealy Trucking, which he established in 1969. Through hard work and determination, he built the company into a successful operation serving the Midwest dairy industry for 44 years before retiring in 2013. He was known for his integrity, reliability, and strong work ethic.

He also served his community as a volunteer fireman during the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado outbreak.

Elmer enjoyed camping, Jeep rides, and traveling—especially to Silver Lake, South Haven, and later Sarasota, Florida, where he and Diane spent winters. He also enjoyed hobby farming and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Diane; sister, Julia (Dean) Ramer; children Sherri (Peter) Woods, Mark (Lori) Stealy, Todd (Faith) Stealy, and Wendy (Michael) Hochstedler; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at LifePoint Church, 1006 South 16th Street, Goshen, Indiana. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday, March 25, one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service, also at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Maples of Waterford Crossing in Goshen as well as Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
