Elmer V. Regier, 89, of Goshen passed away late Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Courtyard Healthcare after a brief illness.
He was born October 16, 1926 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to Rev. David A. and Barbara (Epp) Regier.
Elmer met his wife, Gloria Joan Bridson at Taylor University in Upland Indiana. They married June 6, 1953 following their graduation.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca (Brian) VanDiepenbos of Goshen; three sons, Darrel (Pamela) Regier of Goshen, David (Marita) Regier of Orville, Ohio and Ronald (Anne) Regier of Bristol; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Elfrieda (Melvin) Loewen of Goshen, Mary Regier of Nappanee, Arnold (Elaine) Regier of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Milton (Lenora) Regier of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and John (Edna) Regier of St. James, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; a sister, Evelyn Einfeld and a brother, Rufus Regier.
They began marriage in voluntary service in California among migrant workers. In 1954 he pastured a church in Brethren, Michigan. From 1956-60 he taught in a mission school in Congo, Africa.
A Goshen resident since 1961, Elmer taught school primarily for Fairfield Community Schools. Through the years, he pastored several rural Methodist churches; Benton, Pleasant Ridge, Mongo, Plato, East Springfield, Richville and Solomon Creek.
Mr. Regier loved the Lord and lived his faith in a life of service to his family, his community and most importantly God. He enjoyed teaching but had a passion to visit and encourage the members of the country churches he pastored.
After retirement, he continued his service to God by volunteering on the prayer line and with an ex-offender ministry in South Carolina. He continually prayed for his family and the world.
Friends may call Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service at New Paris Missionary Church. Pastors David Hackney and Matt Schoettle will officiate.
A private family burial will take place Saturday morning.
