Elmer J. Kauffman, 85, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, September 26, 2011 at his home. He had been ill the past nine years. He was born December 4, 1925, in Plain City, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Ella (Yoder) Kauffman. He married Anna N. Miller on August 25, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Judy (Larry) Hicks of Goshen and Sharon (Dale) Schilling of Muskegon, Michigan; four grandchildren, Julie Schilling, April (Alex) Hicks Lo, John (Sandy) Schilling and Amy (Geoff) Hicks Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Timothy; four sisters and two brothers. A Goshen resident since 2002, Mr. Kauffman proudly served in the US Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1967. He and his wife were owner/operators of the Gospel Book Store and the House of Flavors, both in Cadillac, Michigan. After retirement they enjoyed traveling and wintering in Winterhaven, Florida, and spending summers in Lake City, Michigan. Elmer loved the Lord, racing stock cars, fishing, and golfing. There will be no visitation or viewing. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Topeka, with son-in-law, Rev. Larry Hicks, officiating. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
