Rev Ellis B. Croyle

The Rev. Ellis B. Croyle, 75, of Goshen, IN died Friday, March 31 after suffering a heart attack.  He was born in Thomas Mills, PA on August 1, 1930 to the late Lloyd S. and Emma (Stahl) Croyle.  On September 12, 1953 he married R. Charlotte Hertzler, who survives. A graduate of Goshen College and the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, he was ordained into the Christian ministry October 17, 1954.  Rev. Croyle served Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Topeka, IN for 7 years followed by 34 years of service at Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, Ohio.  Post-retirement positions included Interim Pastorates at College Mennonite Church, Emma Mennonite Church and Olive Mennonite Church in the Goshen area.  He also served as a Fifth Grade teacher at Topeka Elementary School.  He was currently employed as Assistant to the Church Relations Department at Goshen College. An active member of each community he lived in, his voluntary activities included 30 years as a Member of the Board at Sunshine Children's Home, Maumee, Ohio, Worship for Shut-ins pastor, leader of th Pastor Peer Program in Archbold, chaplain at Goshen General Hospital and Host for the Performing Arts Series at Goshen College. In addition to Charlotte, his loving wife of 52 years, he is survived by children Timothy of Goshen, Thomas (Ellen) of Milford Center, OH, Nancy (Loren)Entz of Newton, KS and Amy (Mark) Deel of Granger, IN, grandchildren Brittany, Nicholas, and Ian Croyle, Christina and Derek Entz, and step-granddaughters Kerstin and Lauren Murray.  A brother, Dr. Denton (Mary) Croyle of Wadsworth, OH and a sister, E. Louise (Douglas) Wigle of Austin, Texas also survive as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be in the Fellowship Hall at College Mennonite Church from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday, April 5th and Thursday, April 6th from 3 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 4 pm.  Memorial contributions can be made to the College Mennonite Church Student Aid Fund.
