Ellie C. Hartzler, 95, of Goshen, died early Sunday morning, January 20, 2008, at Greencroft Healthcare. She had been in failing health since January 12. She was born in Belleville, Pennsylvania, on May 8, 1912, to Gideon J. and Sadie (Spicher) Peachey. She married Harvey J. Hartzler on December 26, 1935 in Belleville. He died September 25, 1944. A Goshen resident since 1985, Mrs. Hartzler, came to Goshen from Belleville, Pennsylvania. A homemaker, she was a member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen. She is survived by a daughter, Ethel (Lloyd) Kaufman of Ionia, Michigan; two sons, Roy T. (Lois) Hartzler of New Paris, and Harvey L. (Betty) Hartzler of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Peachey of Belleville, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; three sisters, Dorothy, Ethel and Verda; and three brothers, Nelda, Roy and Byron. Friends may call 2 to 4 Tuesday, January 22 at the Meetinghouse at Greencroft and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 23 at Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville, Pennsylvania. A 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22 funeral service will be held at the Meetinghouse at Greencroft. Pastor Klaudia Smucker will officiate. A 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2008, funeral service will be held at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville. A nephew, Gerald Peachey and Pastor Max Zook of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to Greencroft Foundation, Goshen, or Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville.
