Ellen Palmer Thompson

Ellen Palmer Thompson, 83, of Wheaton, Illinois, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Seasons Hospice, Naperville, Illinois. She was born on February 6, 1933, in Mishawaka, the daughter of Clyde G. and Kathryn M. (Chappell) Palmer. On February 10, 1957, she married Bert A. Thompson of Alexandria.

Mrs. Thompson was educated at Goshen College and Indiana University where she received a Master of Library Science. Her entire career was spent as a public librarian, most notably as the Director of Library Services, Kearney (Nebraska) Public Library (1967-1969), and as Reference Librarian, Wheaton Public Library (1969-1995).

Surviving Mrs. Thompson are son, John Carter Thompson of Corona, California; daughter Anne Palmer Hayes (Richard Hayes) of Orland Park, Illinois; son Paul Julian Thompson (Katherine Norris Thompson) of Geneva, Illinois; four grandchildren, Amanda Rodriguez (Alberto Rodriguez), Tabitha Thompson, Katherine Hayes, and John Cory Thompson; and a great-granddaughter, Gloria Rodriguez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert A. Thompson.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 with visitation at noon and service at 1:00 pm at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Wheaton Public Library, Wheaton, Illinois.
