Ellen Marie Miller, 95, of Goshen died Tuesday afternoon, August 11, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born in Middlebury, Indiana, on October 24, 1913, to the late Jesse E. and Dora (Miller) Gardner. She married Samuel S. Miller on December 24, 1932 in Middlebury. He preceded her on April 4, 1995. A homemaker and longtime resident of the area, Mrs. Miller was a member of College Mennonite Church. Life for Ellen was an opportunity to love, laugh, and care for not only her children, but also anyone who needed it at the moment. She was a true servant of the LORD, happiest when she was helping someone in some way. She became an integral part of her church and God used her to serve unconditionally beyond all expectations. She is survived by three daughters, Meredeth (Don) Wittrig of Topeka, Patricia Nisley of Valparaiso, and Eleanor (Samuel) Koehler of Spring Valley, Minnesota; a son, Samuel W. (Sue) Miller of Hobart, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Verda (Robert) Ewing of Newark, Ohio, and Olene (Robert) Garber of Bristol, Indiana; and a sister-in-law, Oneta Gardner of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Mary Neuhauser; and three brothers, Charles V., Victor M. and Frank J. Gardner. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 13, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2009, memorial service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. Pastors Klaudia Smucker and Betty Hochstetler will officiate. A family burial will be held in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorial contributions may be made to Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart.
