Ellen "Arlene" Hershberger, 82, of Manor IV, Greencroft Goshen, died Thursday evening, September 1, 2011, at The Courtyard, Goshen. She was born December 5, 1928 in Goshen to the late Maynard and Mandella (Bachtel) Hoover. On August 5, 1947 she married Edwin S. Hershberger in New Paris. He died June 13, 2005. Surviving are three daughters, June (Fernando) Trcka, Sharon (Sam) Zepeda, and Rita (Greg) Bontrager, all of Goshen; three sons, Jay (Beverly) Hershberger of New Paris, David, (Shirley) Hershberger of Goshen, and Daryl (Geraldine) Hershberger of Wolcottville; a sister-in-law, Edna Hoover; a brother-in-law, Galen Johns; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Miriam (Vernon) Bontreger and Lucille (Menno) Chupp, both of Goshen, and Ruth (Dale Patten) Hoover of New Paris; two brothers, Lowell (Velorous) Hoover of Goshen and John Hoover of Glen Flora, Wisconsin, and a granddaughter-in-law, Dawn Staub. She was preceded in death by a step-mother, Hilde Hoover; a sister, Edith Johns; a brother, Don Hoover; and a grandson, York Staub. A homemaker, Mrs. Hershberger, was a member of Benton Mennonite Church. Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 5 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and from 9 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2011, funeral service will be conducted at Benton Mennonite Church with Pastors Douglas Kaufman and Brenda Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Benton Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Benton Mennonite Church.
