Ella Pearl Smucker of rural Smithville, died January 9, 2008 at the age of 94. She was gently ushered into God’s presence following a seven year residence in Greencroft Retirement Communities of Goshen, Indiana. She was born March 18, 1913 to John Sr. and Mae Ramseyer in Hudson, Illinois. She was baptized at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church near Sterling. Ella Pearl graduated from Sterling High School in the class of 1931. She married Paul R. Smucker on August 20, 1936. They raised a family of five boys on the two farms along Smucker and Egypt Roads. Ella Pearl taught Sunday and summer bible school classes during most of her early life at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church and continued to be involved in various committees when the church moved to Smithville. She enjoyed several years in Bible Study Fellowship. Ella Pearl is survived by her sons, Ralph (Cissy) Smucker of Austin, TX, Alvin (Betty) Smucker of Okemos, MI, Mark (Jeanne) Smucker of Indianapolis, IN, Don (Jane) Smucker of Coldwater, MI, and daughter-in-law Dot Smucker of Goshen, IN. She has fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mae Smucker of Wooster, OH, brother Roy (Kathryn) Ramseyer of Marshallville and sister-in-law Lois Ramseyer of Smithville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her son, Lynn, and brothers Paul and John Ramseyer. Services in memory of Ella Pearl will begin at 11:00am, Saturday, Janaury 12, 2008, at the Smithville Mennonite Church near Smithville, Ohio. Visitation with her family will be from 9-11am at Smithville Mennonite Church before the funeral services. Memorials may be given to Smithville Mennonite Church or the Haven of Rest Rescue Mission, Akron, where Ella Pearl and her husband volunteered many years.
