Ella M. Fields, 55, died early Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012, at her home after battling cancer two and a half years. She was born December 30, 1956 in Maysville, Kentucky to Charles and Julia B. (Jones) Simms. She married John "Reg" Fields July 10, 1980 in Goshen. He survives. Also surviving are three children, James Fields of Goshen, Marissa K. Fields of Fort Wayne and Charlene Alexis Fields of Goshen; a brother, Clifford Simms of Ashland, Kentucky; two sisters, Rose Langford of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Martha Simms of Maysville, Kentucky; six nieces, Jasmine Gamble, Rose Ann (Howard) Clayborn, Billie Joe Langford, Michelle Langford, Barbara (Michael) Freeman, and Cydonia (Robert) Perry; and two nephews, Joe (Rheem) Jones and Robert Simms. Also surviving are special friends, Hubert Hershberger, Vickie DeLarel, Linda Rhodes and Jennie Singer, all of Goshen, and Mary Riggs, Bonnie Jean and Ruth Ann, all of Maysville, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Jones, Barbara Robinson and Viola Simms, and two brothers, Frank and Charles "Clem" Simms. A Goshen resident since 1978, Mrs. Fields was a cook at Goshen College, Elkhart County Sherriff's Department, Chamberlain Elementary School and Bashor Children's Home. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 4 p.m. funeral service will be conducted with Timothy Yoder officiating. Following the service the celebration of Ella's life will continue at her home. In keeping with Ella's wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, Bashor Children's Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
