Elizabeth Garber, 82, of Goshen, died Friday afternoon, December 1, 2006, at her home of 55 years. She was born February 11, 1924, in Topeka, Indiana, to George Y. and Sylvia Jane (Miller) Miller. She married Maurice Garber on September 25, 1943, in Shipshewana. He survives. A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Garber, graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1942 from Shipshewana High School. A homemaker, she worked part time for Lolly’s Fabrics in Shipshewana after she raised her children. She also taught quilting for many years at the former YWCA in Goshen and other places. A member of the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Mrs. Garber, was very active in WMSC (sewing circle), taught Sunday School, and was actively involved with the Mennonite Relief Sale. Mrs. Garber was a past president of the Greencroft Auxiliary, the Elkhart County Extension Homemakers, and was a Red Cross volunteer at Goshen General Hospital. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, crafts and plants. She is survived by her husband, Maurice; three daughters, Karen (Verlin) Troyer of Millersburg, Indiana, Joan (Wayne) Gingerich of Hudson, Indiana, and Gretchen (Verl) Weaver of Goshen; a son, Craig (JoAnn) Garber of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Roscoe Y. Miller and two half brothers, Amzie Y. and Holly Y. Miller. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 4, and 9 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Goshen. A 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2006, funeral service will be held at the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. Rev. Terry Diener and Rev. Vernon Bontreger of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton Frame Mennonite Women’s Sewing Circle.
