Eli S. Schmucker, 87, of Goshen, died Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Greencroft Healthcare. He was born in Marshall County on January 20, 1923 to Daniel and Veronica “Fannie” (Miller) Schmucker. He married Myrtle Witmer on June 1, 1947 in Grabill. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Daniel L. (Darla) Schmucker of New Paris, Arnold J. (Nam Suk) Schmucker of Portland, Oregon, Howard D. (Brenda) Schmucker of Goshen, and Edward L. (Rena) Schmucker of New Paris; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Hoover of Goshen and two brothers, Harley Schmucker of Goshen and Paul (Bertha) Schmucker of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathryn Robertson. A Goshen area resident since 1947 he owned and operated Schmucker Excavating from 1958-1982. He served as pastor of the Gospel Lighthouse, now Family Worship Center, from 1980 to 2008. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, October 17, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. A 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 18, 2010, funeral service will be conducted at East Goshen Mennonite Church. Pastor James Hochstetler of Family Worship Center will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to the Family Worship Center.
