Elaine S. Unzicker, 73, died at home in Goshen surrounded by family on Sunday, March 3, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Elaine was born October 12, 1939 in Aurora, Illinois. She graduated from Goshen College in 1961 with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and received a Master's degree in Education from Northwestern University in 1967. On August 12, 1961, she married Roger Unzicker. In 1972, the couple returned to settle in Goshen after three years working with Mennonite missions organizations in Tanzania. Roger Unzicker, a medical doctor with Middlebury Family Physicians, passed away in 1992. In 2006, Elaine married Harold Kauffman, a fellow graduate of Goshen College and retired professor of Agriculture at the University of Illinois. Elaine was an elementary school teacher. She taught in Chicago from 1966 to 1967 and later at Jefferson Elementary from 1991 to 2002. She was a member of College Mennonite Church, where she most recently served on the Nurture Commission, the Life Cycle Committee, and taught summer Bible school for many years. Survivors include her husband, Harold Kauffman; four sons; Eric and his wife, Sheri, Thomas and his wife, Andrea, David and his wife, Jenelle, and Jeffrey; a sister, Phyllis Yoder, and five grandchildren: Sophia, Sam, Jacob, Leo and Elena. A visitation for friends and family is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the Koinonia room at College Mennonite Church, 1900 S. Main, Goshen, Indiana from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at College Mennonite Church on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee and Campus Center for Young Children at College Mennonite Church.
