Elaine (Gerig) Schrock

Elaine (Gerig) Schrock, 76, died on December 23, 2021 at Waterford Crossing in Goshen, Indiana from a rare brain disease.

Elaine was born April 9, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to Vernon and Mabel (Wyse) Gerig. She married Dan Schrock in 1966.

Elaine earned a B.S. degree in Nursing from Goshen College in 1968. She served as a School Nurse in the American School of Kuwait (4 yrs) and in the Cairo American College in Egypt (4 yrs). Elaine was also part of the Elkhart County Health Dept. for several years, and finished her nursing career as a School Nurse in the Westview School Corp. (17 yrs).

Elaine and Dan traveled extensively to over 60 countries early in their married life. More recently they found great pleasure in developing close relationships with numerous international students at Goshen College.

Elaine approached life with a playful attitude, laughed a lot, and was a joy to be around. Yet she also was a very competent, compassionate nurse and a serious student until the end, trying to learn new things every day in spite of her insidious brain disease.

Elaine loved to sing, play tennis, travel, and follow world events. She also enjoyed her many, many friendships. Elaine was a member of College Mennonite Church for nearly 50 years. At various times she sang in the church choir, led grief support groups, served on the Caring Commission (6yrs), was an Elder (6yrs), and helped with the Jubilee Fund distribution. Her life was dedicated to following Jesus and serving others.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Dan, their daughter, Barbara Schrock, and granddaughter, Isabella Benson. Elaine’s parents, her two sisters, Marianna and Byrdene, and her granddaughter, Natalia preceded her in death.

Elaine was very appreciative of the staff at Waterford Crossing who aided her in so many helpful ways with a loving and caring spirit.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at College Mennonite Church on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:45 a.m.

Visitation hours are 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday March 25 at College Mennonite Church.
