Edna K. Boyer Lockwood, 97, of Goshen died Monday evening, December 17, 2007, at her home. She was born in LaGrange County on November 15, 1910, to Edward and Mary (Weaver) Kauffman. She married Clifford G. Boyer on March 7, 1929. He died August 6, 1976. On December 15, 1979, she married Orville Lockwood. He died in 1985. Mrs. Lockwood was a member of Peoples Bible Church in Benton where she played the organ. She was a member of the Busy Bee Homemakers for more than 50 years. In 1947 she became a licensed pilot and did her last long distance solo flight in 2005 to Florida. She was known to many people as the “Flying Grandma”. She volunteered at World Missionary Press. She worked as a postal carrier for more than 2o years with the Goshen Post Office. She is survived by three daughters, Doris (Dan T.) Yoder and Rosemond Hartzler, both of Goshen, and Peggy (Freeman) Willits of South Milford; a son, James H. (Janice) Boyer of Goshen; a step-daughter, Mary Kay (Leonard) Ropp of Goshen; two stepsons, Douglas (Janice) Lockwood and Churubusco and Paul (Brenda) Lockwood of Syracuse.; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Irene Kauffman of Middlebury and Velma (Richard) Nusbaum of Kendallville. She was preceded in death by both her husbands; twin daughters, Arlene and Irene; a son, Clifford Boyer, Jr.; two sisters, Sylvia Kropf and Orpha Eash; two brothers, Harley and David Kauffman; two stepsons, Philip and Robert Lockwood and a step-grandchild. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 21, at the funeral home. An 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2007, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. John Randolph of Peoples Bible Church and Rev. Harold Mast, a nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.
