Edith M. Hooley

Edith M. Hooley, 92, of New Paris, Indiana, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026, under the dedicated care of Cottage Garden and Comfort One Hospice.

She was born April 1, 1934, in Mio, Oscoda County, Michigan, to John and Anna (Miller) Troyer.

On July 2, 1960, she married William D. Hooley in Mio, Michigan. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2019.

Edith had worked at Greencroft as an assistant living aide. She was a woman of strong character and a fiery spirit, who worked hard throughout her life and found many ways to care for the people she loved. Sewing, cooking, and canning were expressions of that love, as she took pride in providing for her family and making a home for them.

A small-town girl at heart, Edith nonetheless lived a life filled with adventure. She called both Georgia and Newfoundland, Canada, home for a time and traveled to San Francisco, Puerto Rico, and Europe. She enjoyed the opportunity to see the world, but no matter where her travels took her, she loved home the most. For Edith, home was where she was most comfortable, surrounded by the people and familiar things she held dear.

She is survived by her daughter, Charity “Joy” (Michael) Doherty of Goshen; two sons, John H. (Jenny) Hooley of Goshen and Samuel D. (Lexi Baiz) Hooley of New Paris; and four grandchildren; Lauren (Brayden Foreman), Austin Hooley, Olivia Stutsman and Ian Stutsman. She is also survived her precious great grandson, Carsen Foreman; her sister, Wanda (Jim Woods) Foster; and her brother, Otis (Jane)Troyer.

She was preceded in death by her 4 brothers, Ray, Levi, Paul and Clyde Troyer; and two sisters, Delila Chupp and Ruby Miller.

Services will be held, Friday, September 11, 2026 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. prior to the 1:30 p.m. funeral service.

A private family burial will take place at Baintertown Cemetery in New Paris.
