Edith M. Johns, 85, of Goshen died at 9:50 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2009 at her home. She was born to John Maynard and Mandella (Bachtel) Hoover on May 1, 1923 in Goshen. She married Galen Johns at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church on May 16, 1943. He survives. Mrs. Johns was a professional quilter and a pastor’s wife. She was a member of Benton Mennonite Church, the Goshen Aphasia Support Group, and was involved with many church quilting circles in the area. She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Johns of Sheridan, Michigan; one daughter, Lois (Jim) Kaufmann of New Paris; three sons, Steven (Debra) and Loren (Rachel) Johns of Goshen, Lindale (Melanie) Johns of Benton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lowell (Velorous) Hoover of Goshen; three sisters, Miriam (Vernon) Bontreger, Arlene Hershberger, and Lucile (Meno) Chupp all of Goshen; one sister-in-law, Edna Hoover of Goshen; one ½ sister, Ruth (Dale Patten) Hoover of New Paris; one ½ brother and John Maynard Hoover of Glen Flora, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by one son, Joe Alan Johns; one daughter, Rachel Nanlee; two brothers, Norman Richard Hoover and Donald Hoover; and her step-mother, Hilde Hoover. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Benton Mennonite Church. A 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2009 funeral service will be conducted at Benton Mennonite Church. Pastors Brenda Meyer and Doug Kaufman will officiate. Burial will be in Benton Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Benton Mennonite Church, Care at home hospice, or the donor’s choice.
