Earle W. “Bud” Waltz, Jr., 76, of Goshen, died Monday morning, April 14, 2008, at his home. He had been in failing health for the last five years. He was born in Goshen, on May 16, 1931, to Earle W. and Josephine (Bonnett) Waltz, Sr. He married Bonita A. Daniels in November 1976 in Syracuse. She survives. A 1950 Goshen High School graduate, Mr. Waltz served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He attended both Earlham and Goshen College. He was a career officer with the Goshen Police Department from 1957 to 1989, retiring as a Captain. He was the firearms instructor during his year of service with the department. He received the Officer of the Year Award. Mr. Waltz was an active realtor for 15 years with his father, in Waltz Realty Company. For many years he served as a Reader in the Christian Science Church. He was a true “family man”, a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Bonita; three daughters, Stacey L. Waltz, Darcy Jo (Jerome) Wilson, both of Albion, Michigan, and Desiree D. Daniels of Elkhart; a son, Gard L. Waltz of Albion; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Mary Hale of Ligonier. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James P. Waltz. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 17, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A Friday, April 18, 2008, funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., at the Liberty Community Church, Goshen. Pastor Matt Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney and Nephrology Foundation or the Elkhart County Humane Society.
