Duane E. Riegsecker, 95, of Goshen, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, October 6, at Waterford Crossing Assisted Living.
He was born January 3, 1928 in Middlebury to John and Neomah (Miller) Riegsecker.
On May 28, 1950, he married Ellen E. Miller at the Middlebury Church of the Brethren. She died October 6, 2017.
Duane is survived by two children, Patricia (Dennis) Kelly, Goshen and Randall (Janet Kunze) Riegsecker, Crossville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Travis Riegsecker of Vincennes, Chad (Ivana) Riegsecker of Prairie View, Illinois, Caroline (Joshua) Richey of Carmel and Caitlin (Michael) Copple of McCordsville; five great-grandsons, Luke and Blake Richey, Porter Copple, Marcus and Avery Riegsecker; and a sister, Doris (Roy) Keim of Goshen.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Rice, Jesse Riegsecker, Louise Hoogenboom, Lillian Slabach, Richard, Robert, John Jr. and Lloyd Riegsecker, and his twin Dorothy Riegsecker.
A lifelong Elkhart County resident, Duane worked for Elkhart County Farm Bureau Co-Op for 45 years, driving a fuel truck and winning many state and local sales awards.
He was a charter member of Maplecrest County Club, scoring the club’s first hole-in-one in 1961, two months after the course opened, and scoring a second hole-in-one in 1993.
Duane was also a charter member of the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department, responding to fires and other emergencies for many years. At 77 he began volunteering in several capacities at Goshen Hospital, earning Rookie of the Year in 2006 and continuing to volunteer until he was 92. He also volunteered for LaCasa, Habitat for Humanity and Church of the Brethren Emergency Response Service Ministries.
He was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren since 1964.
A private graveside service will be held Friday October 13, 2023, at Violett Cemetery.
Friends will be received Friday, November 24, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the 12, noon, memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be given to Goshen City Church of the Brethren or Goshen Health Auxiliary.
