Duane Mervin Mahler

Duane Mervin Mahler, 83, of Goshen, died late Saturday night, July 31, 2010, at The Maples Healthcare.  He had been ill the past 14 years. He was born December 1, 1926, in Elkhart to the late Melvin and Leona (Snyder) Mahler.  He married Letha I. Brubaker on April 15, 1951.  She preceded him in death on December 4, 2006. A resident of Millersburg since 1960, Mr. Mahler is survived by four sisters, Blanch Gorc of Elkhart, Beverly Albert and Bernice Miller, both of Goshen, and Gloria (Bill) Johnson of Union, Michigan; and three brothers, Butch (Sandy) Mahler of LaGrange, Burnell (Susan) Mahler of Chula Vista, California, and R.B. (Ann) Mahler of Osceola. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. A truck driver, Mr. Mahler retired from the County Highway Department after 32 years.  He had also worked at Superior Laminating. A member of Burr Oak Church, he volunteered as a Red Coat at Goshen General Hospital for 30 years and served on the Goshen Hospital Board from 1996 to 2001.  He also served on the Clinton Township Advisory Board, as a board member for the Town of Millersburg, Millersburg Parks Department Board and two terms with the Millersburg Town Council Board; and was one of the founders of the Friend of the Park Board.  He was named the 2003 Millersburg Citizen of the Year. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 3 and from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. A 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Burns officiating. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
