Duane Stanley Lehman, 91, was at home when he went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 23, 2023.

He was born January 18, 1932, in Berne, Indiana, to Howard and Florence (Leichty) Lehman. On June 25, 2017 he married Joann Weaver.

He is survived by his wife of six years Joann (Weaver); children Jean (Tony) Laughter, Grand Rapids, Michigan; David (Linda) Lehman, Plymouth, Minnesota; and Janice (David) Kay, Goshen; and his sister Colleen Edmondson, Downey, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bonnie (Neff) and his second wife Dorothy (Mawhorter). Duane was blessed with eight grandchildren and their spouses: Anna Laughter, Matthew (Alyssa) Lehman, Brett Lehman, Jason Lehman, Carl (Gretl) Kay, Warren (Madison) Kay, Miranda Kay, Hudson Kay. Duane was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Hunter Lehman, Ava Lehman, Grayson Kay, Lacey Kay, Wesley Kay, Eloise Kay, and Colette Kay. He is also survived by four step-children and their families.

He graduated from Berne High School (class of ‘50) and Wheaton College (class of ‘54) and then earned a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Indiana University. He spent his career at Dow Chemical Company and lived in Midland, Michigan for over 50 years. He moved to Goshen, in 2013. He actively served for many years at Midland Reformed Church and more recently at Sugar Grove Church in Goshen. He was very involved with Young Life, an international ministry dedicated to sharing the good news about Jesus Christ to middle school and high school kids, and organizations related to mental health, such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Tri-County Community Mental Health Board.

He built a cottage on Lake Missaukee in northern Michigan that held a special place in his heart as a gathering place for friends and family. He treasured many long-term relationships as a mentor, confidant, and friend. He was physically active throughout his life and enjoyed participating in numerous sports including basketball, baseball, windsurfing, sailing, motorcycling, tennis, and pickleball. He took great delight in spending quality time with his children and grandchildren and left a lasting legacy founded on his Christian faith that will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Sugar Grove Church, 58512 Old County Road 17, Goshen, IN 46528.
