Dorothy J. (Keller) Unger, 85, of Goshen, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital after a short illness. She was born August 9, 1928 in Eureka, Illinois, to Emil and Anna (Roth) Keller. She married George S. Unger on September 9, 1956 in Metamora, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2010. She is survived by a son, Ben (Debra) Unger, of Center Valley, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Carol Jones, of Goshen, and Joanne Rivera, of Archbold, Ohio; and special friend, Theron Schlabach,of Goshen. Dorothy received a secretarial certificate from Goshen College in 1948 and worked as a secretary for the registrar and director of admissions at Goshen College until 1955, and subsequently as secretary at churches in Illinois and Indiana. She and her husband served at Prairie View Hospital (MCC Health Services), Newton, Kan., from 1956-59, and they lived in Morton, Ill., from 1965-89. In 1989 they retired and moved to Goshen where Dorothy was active in the community, volunteering at Oaklawn Hospital; The Window; Goshen College; IN-MI Conference; and many other church activities. She was a member at College Mennonite Church. Dorothy was kind and caring, loved to be with people, and touched the lives of many in very special ways. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sat., January 18, 2014 in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church, where a 3 p.m. Sunday , January 19, 2014 celebration of life service will be held. Pastor Ron Kennel will officiate. A private burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee, PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501, in memory of Dorothy. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
