Dorothy M. Schmucker, 86, of Goshen, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, April 1, 2014, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. She was born December 8, 1927 in Elkhart County to William and Lizzie Ann (Mast) Sumpter. She married Willard N. Schmucker in Feb. 1946 in Middlebury. He died in 1975. She is survived by three children, Sharon Babin of Goshen, Kenneth Schmucker of Sturgis, Michigan, and Joyce Schrock of Middlebury; eight grandchildren, Michael (Nancy) Babin, Marc (Elisabeth) Babin, Kent (Courtney) Schmucker, Tammy Scarberry, Heather (John) Jones, Amanda (Robert) Kindel, Bryan (Jaimee) Schmucker and Kenneth Kern; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eldon (Elizabeth) Sumpter of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two siblings, Homer Huffman and AnnaBelle Yoder. A member of East Goshen Mennonite Church for 60 years, Mrs. Schmucker was known for her quilts. She volunteered at Greencroft. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, April 5, 2014, all at East Goshen Mennonite Church. Pastor Steve Slagel and nephew, Hubert Schmucker, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to East Goshen Mennonite Church. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
